Newest Distress Mini Ink Pads

The adorable Distress mini ink pad sets # 7, 8 and 9 are now out!

Here's an art journal page I created using these Distress mini ink pads and Distress paints and Stamper's Anonymous stencils and stamp by Tim Holtz.

Here's a list of products:
Tim Holtz® Distress Ink Minis (Sets 7, 8, and 9)
Tim Holtz® Distress Paint (Barn Door, Chipped Sapphire, Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Seedless Preserves, Spiced Marmalade)
Others: book, gesso, Ph Martin's Bombay India ink, paint brushes, Q-tip

Let me break down my page into steps for you

I'm working in a book today. I started by applying a couple of coats of white gesso to the spread. When the gesso dried, I used the Numbered stencil with the Distress Ink Minis and mini blending tool to add the numbers to the bottom right corner of the spread.

Next, I covered the whole spread with Latticework design using stencil and the Distress Ink Minis. I flicked some water to the spread with paintbrush to make the Distress inks react.

I painted some flowers with paint brush and Distress paint above the numbers.

I added some color to the page with some Distress paints and stamped over it with the graph background stamp with Distress ink mini.

Next, I sketched a girl's face on the left half of the spread with pencil.

I colored her lips with Distress Ink mini with a Q-tip.

I liked how the stenciled background looked, so instead of coloring in her face, I decided to define the contour by adding marks next to it with paint brush and Distress paints.

I also colored her eyes a bit.

Finally, I added some words, actually the lyrics of Counting Stars, one of my favorite songs by OneRepublic with paint brush and liquid India ink.

GIVEAWAY: I have a set of these Distress Ink Minis (sets 7, 8 and 9) to give away. Leave me a comment to this post with your favorite song and I'll choose ONE winner and post it next Monday, 6/23. Please check back to see if you won. Good luck :)

A gift box with Sizzix

To make this cute gift box, you'll need:
Sizzix Big Shot Machine Only (Powder Blue & Teal)
Others: cardstock, book page, acrylic paints, ribbon, stamp, ink, adhesive, palette knife

Diecut cardstock and book pages to make the box parts using the box die and Sizzix Big Shot machine.

Attach book pages diecuts to the cardstock diecuts.

Paint the diecut pieces with acrylic paints and palette knife. Stamp on parts of the box diecuts.

Assemble the lid and body of the box. Cut a piece of ribbon and attach through the holes. Once the box is assembled, attach the crown medallion diecut to the box lid.

Here are some close-up shots from various angles.
Fill the box with a little gift and push the lid down and pull the ribbon handle up to finish.
Hope you enjoyed today's tutorial. It sure was a lot of fun to make!

Take the Challenge, June 2014 at Design Memory Craft blog

Hi everyone, Mou here  and welcome to the sixth Take The Challenge of 2014

If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick TWO winners from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.

This month's challenge is about mixing and matching your mediums. Mix & Match is the motto of Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft. The products from this brand can be used together just as beautifully as they can be used individually. So, your challenge is to create a project of your choice by mixing and matching at least TWO different mediums. It could be Gesso and Gelatos, or Glaze and ArtGRIP Aquarelle Watercolor pencils, for example. If you want to mix and match more than two mediums, go right ahead and have fun!

Here's my take:

In my project, I mixed and matched four different types of Textural Accents - Gesso, gel Medium, Chalkboard Paint, and Whipped Spackle with two different coloring mediums: Gelatos and Stamper's Big Brush pens. Here's the list of supplies:
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gesso

Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos®: Guava (RED set), Mango (YELLOW set)
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Stamper's Big Brush Pens: Black 199 Scarlet Red 118, Deep Scarlet Red 219 & Magenta 133 (3 ct RED set)Light Blue 154
Others: wood plaque, scrap patterned papers, diecuts (by Sizzix), bubble wrap, paintbrush

Here are some close-up shots of the finished project:

Instead of doing a photo tutorial, I did a video this month to show you the techniques. I hope you can follow along despite my accent :)

Don't forget to share your challenge creations with us... just leave a comment to the challenge post with link to your project image(s) by Friday, 6/13 and we will pick TWO winners randomly to win these.
Don't forget to check back on Monday, 6/16 to see if YOU won!
Good luck to all!
