Book Review: The Acid Watcher Diet

After my second baby was born, I started having severe migraines. I was told that over time, I'll have a migraine map which will give me my triggers that brought these miserable headaches about and that way I'll be able to recognize and avoid those triggers as much as possible. Within a span of a few months, several of my favorite foods had to be dropped from my meals. The biggest trigger turned out to be acidity and I was also diagnosed with Acid Reflux Disease. Medications, change in diet, lifestyle changes - all were prescribed and I followed those suggestions as best as I could after taking care of the toddler and the baby and my household and late night hours to support my growing work schedule for the magazines, which basically translated to not enough self care. So, the struggle continued.

As I read The Acid Watcher Diet by Jonathan Aviv, many of the reasons, causes and suggested remedies began making more sense. The author explains in layman terms, the role of proteins, carbs, fats, fibers in healing dietary acid damage. He also speaks of breaking acid generating habits and generating acid reduction practices. Finally, he provides 28-day blueprint with a meal planner to let the healing begin.

While it won't be easy to completely cut off processed food, caffeine, sugar, and other culprits overnight,  The Acid Watcher Diet is a good place to start and to refer back to. With an elaborate list of healthy PH 5 food to choose from, this is doable or at least worth a serious try.

*I got this book from Blogging for Books for this review.

Hi Mou! I know exactly what you are going through. When I was going through Chemo, my body became very acidic. I found this website, The Alkaline Sisters( and she now has a book out that has some great recipes and info - Eat Better, Live Better, Feel Better by Julie Cove. It made a huge difference in my health then and still today. On another note, I am loving your amazing sketches, you are so talented!!
