Hi everyone, Mou here with today's post! It's an art journal page. We are not Irish, but living here in the U.S., we are touched by many cultures and their celebrations in one way or another. For instance, on St. Patrick's Day, the kids have to wear something green to school and we love having Shamrock shakes from McDonald's... and I think it's great to have these opportunities to learn about other countries and cultures.
To create this page, I took the following steps:
Attach old book paper to journal page with gel medium.
When dry, apply a coat of gesso.
Sketch a drink cup with straw.
Color the page with Gelatos colors: Lavender, Red Cherry, Mango, Pistachio, Blueberry, Grape, Coconut, Aqua Dolce, and Black Cherry. Blend with waterbrush.
Journal next to the cup with PITT Artists pen BLACK.
Dot the page with Stamper's Big White pen to finish.
Here are the steps:
Fold cream cardstock to make 5.5" x 4.25" card.
Trim kraft cardstock to 4" x 5.5". Place it in the Keyboard embossing folder. Put the folder between two standard cutting pads and place the whole sandwich on Tab 1 of the Multipurpose platform. Pass the sandwich through the Big Shot machine to emboss the cardstock.
Lay patterned paper on the blade side of the Butterfly Duo die. Place the die and paper between two standard cutting pads and pass the whole sandwich through the Big Shot machine to diecut the butterflies.
Place the diecut butterflies on their matching spots in the accompanying Texture Fades embossing folder. secure the diecuts in place with some removable tape. Put the folder between two cutting pads and place them on Tab 1 of the Multipurpose platform. Pass the whole sandwich through the Sizzix Big Shot machine to emboss the diecut butterflies.
Rub the Pink Gumballs Dye Ink Pad on the embossed kraft cardstock piece for the raised edges to catch the subtle color. Repeat with the Java Bean Dye Ink Pad on the butterflies.
Trim some lace to fit on the kraft embossed piece.
Attach the lace and the butterflies as shown. Machine stitch down the center. Trim all around to make the piece a little smaller than the card front. Attach the above piece to the card.
Place a standard cutting pad on the Magnetic Platform. Place the Handwritten Love Thinlit die blade side up on the cutting pad. The Magnetic Platform ensures that the die stays in place while cutting. Place paper on the die and cover with the second standard cutting pad. Pass the whole sandwich through the Big Shot machine to diecut the word 'love'. Attach the diecut word between the two butterflies as the sentiment.
What would you make with these dies and Texture Fades?
If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick TWO winners from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.
For March, I have a prompt for you: TIME. Interpret it any way that's personal to you. For me, it's shared time, time spent with family, friends, observing how my children like to spend their time with each other... well, you get the idea. Here's my art journal page.
Start by attaching scraps of old book page, junk mail, lace, etc. to the art journal page using Gel Medium.
When dry, apply a coat of Gesso to unify the elements.
Color the page with Gelatos® colors.
Stamp randomly by inking background stamp with Stamper's Big Brush pen.
Diecut the clock. Stamp the image. Attach the image behind the clock and trim off excess. Attach the clock to the page with Gel Medium.
Add colors and details to the stamped image inside the clock with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Art GRIP® Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils, Gesso, and Stamper's. Big Brush pens. Color the clock with Chalkboard Paint.
Lay chevron stencil on the page and with palette knife from the Gelatos Mist Maker Set, apply a thin coat of Texture Luxe Gold paste. Repeat with the Dots stencil in different areas of the page.
Add some words cut out from book pages to the clock with Gel Medium.
Here's another close-up of my page.
Don't forget to share your challenge creations with us... just leave a comment to the challenge post with link to your project image(s) by Friday, 3/13 and we will pick TWOwinners randomly to win these.
