Some ATCs with Sizzix

Hi everyone! Today, I want to share with you some ATCs I made recently using various Sizzix dies, especially my new favorites: the Tim Holtz frameworks dies. These ATCs are for a special friend whose son graduates high school this year. I had a great time layering diecuts together and thought you might enjoy seeing that too.

To make these ATCs, I have used the following products:
Others: watercolor paper, trimmer, Gelatos, watercolor pencils, stamps, washi tapes, patterned papers, pen, paint brush, adhesive

Let me walk you through the steps:

Diecut Frameworks from cardstock and cut watercolor paper down to ATC size.

Use Gelatos to color the ATC backgrounds.

Once the colors dry, stamp on them. Attach the frameworks diecuts to the ATCs.

Stamp images over some of the layered ATCs. Color around with watercolor pencils. Write words with pen. Layer other diecuts on each other or over the framework diecuts. Add washi tapes, stickers, patterned papers, printed and written words to decorate the ATCs.

Hope you try layering these framework dies with stamps, diecuts, stickers, and other goodies you have.

Tuesday Tutorial: Telling a story

Hi everyone, Mou here with today's post.
Did you know that April 27th is Tell A Story Day? So, in honor of this day, I want to share a little story about a family vacation we took over spring break last month. I'll show you the first spread today. To tell my story, I'm going to use
  • Daily Flash pocket pages by October Afternoon
  • Printed photos
  • Drawn pictures
  • Memento collected
  • and some words, stamps, stickers, etc.
The first part of this process is in selecting the right pocket pages for my purpose.

I picked these two: SL-1073 - Daily Flash - 6x8 Sleeve for 3x3 (A) and SL-1074 - Daily Flash - 6x8 Sleeve for 3x4 (A). I also used the 12 x 12 Stamp Book paper and See The World stamp set from Travel Girl collection, Orange Soda alphas from Daily Flash collection and some label stickers.

Next is selection of photos. Obviously, there are several to choose from. I decided to pick those that will help me tell my story the best, rather than picking only those that looked the best. Here are some I decided on:

And there were sketches I did during this cruise that I wanted to include. My sketch wasn't the size to fit into any of the pockets, So I scanned it and resized it to fit.

I also included a little memento from the trip to tell my story. I had to cut off the rim to make it fit in the pocket. This is what the final spread looks like

I added the label stickers right on the photos and journaled on them. I cut a piece of the Stamp Book paper to fit in the center pocket and added the title and a stamp to it. I used the remaining space on the paper to tell the gist of the story.
What story would you tell with the Daily Flash pockets?

Sketching on the go

Hi everyone! In keeping with the creative-on-the-go theme from my April Take The Challenge, I'm going to share with you some more pages from my vacation sketchbook. This is more for inspiration than to teach any particular technique other than observing your surroundings. Each of these sketches are created with

These were done in Labadee, Haiti.

This was near Jamaica.

This was Cozumel. There were several Catamarans that took cruisers to their shore excursions. The one my family took to snorkel the coral reef was called Fury.

Saw this butterfly on a plant where we shopped in Cozumel.
Now, I could go back in and add journaling to these sketches and make it a visual journal of my vacation. I like to scrapbook my vacations, but working on sketchbooks like this one is definitely more fun! How about you?

Take the Challenge, April 2014 at Design Memory Craft blog

Hi everyone, Mou here  and welcome to the fourth Take The Challenge of 2014!

If you are new to this blog, let me fill you in about Take the Challenge. Every month, on the first Monday, I'll post a challenge and my take on it. You'll have 12 days to take this on. Leave a comment to the challenge post with a link to your creation based on that challenge. We will pick TWO winners from among the readers who participated in that month's challenge. And the winners will get a prize from Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft®.
We just returned from our sprink break. We went on a cruise to Haiti, Jamaica, and Cozumel. When we go on such family vacations, I carry a sketch book and my Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencilsDeluxe Waterbrush, and Essential PITT Artist pens (BLACK). The light load works best for me. In between shore excursions and general entertainment and relaxing, I sketch simple scenes around me.
How do you stay creative during your vacations? Show us any project you created on the go.

Here's my take.

And I took a quick photo around the same time to show what I mean by simple scenes. Here's my son, busy playing with his i-pod nano on our private deck.

I started with a pencil sketch.

Next I colored the sketch with various shades of Art GRIP® Aquarelle watercolor pencils.

I used the Deluxe Waterbrush to blend the colors. When dry, I added details with Essential PITT Artist pens (BLACK).

And of course, I wasn't the only one enjoying being creative on vacation :)

Don't forget to share your challenge creations with us... just leave a comment to the challenge post with link to your project image(s) by Friday, 4/18 and we will pick TWO winners randomly to win these.
The prizes for this challenge are: One set of 9 ct Art GRIP Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils in the color of your choice.
Don't forget to check back on Monday, 4/21 to see if YOU won!
Good luck to all!
